World's first truly community driven global fictional sci-fi art project; The Backrooms phenomenon began in May 2019, originating from an anonymous post on the imageboard 4chan. In a thread dedicated to unsettling images, a user shared a picture of a dull, seemingly infinite room with yellowed wallpaper, fluorescent lighting, and damp carpet.
Accompanying the image was a cryptic caption: "If you're not careful and you no-clip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old, moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in."

This simple post struck a chord with internet users, sparking widespread fascination and discussion. The concept of the Backrooms resonated deeply with those who had experienced dreams or deja vu of similar unsettling spaces called liminal spaces; tapping into a universal sense of discomfort with the mundane yet distorted. The Backrooms quickly became a viral sensation, with countless users contributing to the lore by creating new levels, entities, and stories.
One of the more prominent was the instant Youtube sensation backrooms series of Kane Pixels.
Other creators also created fan art, short films, and even video games inspired by the concept. The collaborative nature of the internet allowed the Backrooms to evolve into a complex and richly detailed universe, with thousands of contributors adding their own interpretations and expansions to the mythos.
The Backrooms' rise to global prominence can be attributed to its unique combination of relatability and horror. The idea of being trapped in an endless, banal space with no escape, haunted by unseen forces, resonates with a deep-seated fear of the unknown. Collaborative storytelling of thousands of artists, has turned the Backrooms into a modern-day urban legend with a global reach.
In this digital age, where ideas can spread rapidly and evolve through community engagement, the Backrooms have become a cultural touchstone. From its humble beginnings as a single image on an obscure forum, it has grown into a sprawling, decentralized mythos that captures the imaginations of people around the world. A breeding ground for talents in cinema, visual FX, storytellers and game developers.
This global phenomenon now serves as the foundation for $ALMOND, a memecoin that leverages the enigmatic and unpredictable essence of the Backrooms, offering a unique entry point into the ever-expanding universe of digital currency.
